Iran’s new President and direction of the foreign policy in the Middle East: Hezbollah and “axis of resistance”.
Iran has a new ‘‘reformist’’ President Masoud Pezeshkian - who is apparently willing to restart nuclear talks and find an arrangement on coexistence/modus vivendi with Washington and Brussels.
We will discuss Pezeshkian’s policy in relation to major policy areas like Russia and China, and re-starting nuclear talks with the West.
But these are evolving issues, and more data points are needed prior to further analysis.
In the meantime and in this post, we shall focus on more urgent and immediate topics of the day: Iran’s stance towards Hezbollah and “axis of resistance” (Iranian proxy militias spread across the entire region of the Middle East.)
Once again, the general starting point is that Pezeshkian wants to reduce the heat and find a new way towards a rapprochement with the West.
And this is certainly far from an ideal scenario for the Revolutionary Guards/IRGC.
Especially when the risk of Israel vs Hezbollah war is ever rising.
