Eighteen months after signing an aspirational pact that declared strategic alignment and an approximate vision of military collaboration, the AUKUS has delivered its first concrete result: a series of specific military and military-industrial production commitments that will bind the US, Australia, and the UK to each other as allies well into the 2040s.
On March 13, the outlines of this new chapter were revealed at the Naval Base Point Loma, in San Diego, by President Joe Biden, Australia’s PM Anthony Albanese, and the UK’s PM Rishi Sunak.
